FORT FISHER CIVIL WAR MUSEUM:

Last major stronghold of the Confederacy, Fort Fisher was the site of two major battles and finally fell January 15, 1865. This earthen fort kept the Cape Fear River and the port of Wilmington open to blockade runners which delivered vital supplies to Confederate armies. Located here are the remains of the fort, a visitor-center with slide orientation and daily guided tours.
