Franklin Square Gallery/Associated Artists of Southport

Box 10035, West Street, Southport, NC 28461

Since 1979, Franklin Square Gallery, Home of the Associated Artists of Southport, a non-profit community art gallery, has been located in the old city hall. The building dates back to the early 1900's when it was built as a public grade school.

Franklin Square Gallery provides exhibit space for a large number of area artists, working in oils, watercolor, mixed media and pottery. The exhibits feature AAS members and visiting artists. A large classroom is used for on-going classes, workshops by nationally known guests instructors and workspace for members. A detached pottery teaching studio shares the grounds with Franklin Square Park. Classes are co-sponsored by Brunswick Community College and the NC Arts Council.

A permanent exhibit space is given to the State-recognized youth program providing shows by area schools on a rotating basis. The gallery is open from March 1 to the middle of December. Events during the year are the AAS community project "Art in the Park" in May, the Brunswick County judged show, The Brunswick County Photography show, quilt exhibits and the month-long National Open Juried 4th of July Art exhibit.

The gallery is located on West Street behind Franklin Square Park. Admission is free. For information call (910)457-5450. Hours are Monday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., during March - December. Call (910)457-5450 for a brochure.
