State of Emergency Updates

Given the most recent and 12th Amendment to the Town of Oak Island State of Emergency Declaration, the short-term rental restrictions in place for the Restricted Area are scheduled to expire on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Guest Updates

While this date may change, Margaret Rudd & Associates anticipates the earliest date for check-ins to be Friday, September 4, 2020. We know that some of our guests will be affected by this limitation, and that we will be unable to facilitate some guest arrivals on their scheduled arrival dates. In addition, the reality of the situation for some of our properties in the formerly Restricted Area is that they will not be ready to facilitate check-ins due to damages and/or needed repairs.

As a result, Margaret Rudd & Associates will offer the following options to guests with scheduled arrival dates through September 3, 2020, and to guests whose rental properties will not be suitable for check-in on their scheduled arrival date:

  • Affected guests may reschedule their vacation. Guests may choose to reschedule their travel dates. Guests must select new travel dates within 2020 and pay the rental rate for the new travel dates. All monies paid toward their current reservation will be transferred to the new stay; or,
  • Affected guests may opt for a refund of monies paid on their reservation. Refunds will be processed within 14 days, but could take up to 30 days, and will be applied to the original form of payment.

Please be aware that the date given to us by the Town does have the potential to change and we will work to keep everyone informed of any changes as they happen and affect your stays.

Staff will reach out in the next few days to confirm the direction that guests would like to take with regard to their reservations. Please note that we will do our best to reschedule reservations if we are able to do so as we know how important your vacation time is for you and your family. Regardless, we hope to reach a solution that works for all parties involved.

We welcome guests to reach out to us through email to if you have any questions or if you would like clarification on the options available to you at this time.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation as well as the directives of the Town of Oak island, and will update our property owners and guests through email communication, this website and our social media accounts as soon as we are able to process new information.
