Storm Conditions to Continue
While current conditions seem mild, we are reminding guests that this weather event is not over. Tropical Storm Debby is still making slow progress up the east coast. Despite a slight westward direction, the latest forecasts still predict 1 to 3 feet of storm surge and 4 to 9 inches of additional rain in the next 24 to 36 hours.
The Towns of Oak Island and Caswell Beach remain under a voluntary evacuation order. Guests on property and scheduled to arrive before Sunday, August 11th are urged to be mindful of the situation throughout the state by paying close attention to the Storm Information sources listed below. The Town of Oak Island's website is also a great resource as it provides a thorough library of information including local street flooding maps and phone numbers for road conditions in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Town of Oak Island Severe Weather
Guests Currently On Property
- MRA recommends reviewing the predicted impacts of the storm and your ability to travel so that you may make a decision on whether to voluntary evacuate based on your comfort level, and/or to review your departure travel path.
- As a reminder, local municipalities will monitor the potential impacts of the storm surge. If it becomes necessary, municipalities may turn off the sewer pumps in certain areas of the island to better manage the inundation of water. If this disruption occurs, MRA will make every effort to notify affected guests as quickly as possible through email or text communications. As always, during any storm we ask that you try and conserve water as much as feasibly possible until the storm passes.
Guests Arriving Through Sunday, August 11th
- We expect to operate under normal business conditions, and to accept check-ins per our normal schedule.
- Staff will need to first conduct property assessments when the storm has passed to make sure there are no damages. Properties with guest check-ins will be prioritized for assessments.
- Once a property is cleared, the office will notify you by email and/or text message to let you know that you can move forward with checking in to your property.
- You may receive our auto communications; however, please do not proceed to the property you have rented until you receive notification from the office that it is okay to proceed with checking in on the day of your arrival.
- Please be mindful that staffing will be limited as we conduct property assessments. Responses to phone calls, texts, and/or emails may be delayed as a result.
MRA Operations
At this time, we expect to operate under normal business conditions for the duration of the storm. MRA will continue to monitor the situation and will notify guests of any significant impacts or updates. We highly encourage you to monitor your email address and/or your mobile phones for communications. We also urge you to pay close attention to the Adverse Weather page of our website.
