Southport / Oak Island has special events throughout the year that highlight a variety of holidays, national observances and just plain fun! Of course, we are most well-known in these parts for hosting the North Carolina 4th of July Festival in Southport NC each year. It is the largest 4th of July celebration in the state and there are great activities and entertainment for the entire week. Book your Oak Island rental now because that week fills up fast! But don’t worry, if you can’t see us in July, there is still plenty going on all year long!

FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH ALL YEAR
First Friday Gallery Walk / Downtown Southport / 5pm-7pm
The public is invited to browse and shop the latest creations of area artists. Wine and appetizers start the walk off at the Franklin Square Gallery then on to Art @ 211, Ricky Evans Gallery, Howe Outrageous, Lantana’s Gallery and Southport’s Silver Coast Winery and Gallery. Enjoy live music along the way!

EVERY MONDAY FROM MAY 4th to SEP 28th
Oak Island Farmer’s Market / Middleton Park Extension at 49th St. / 7am-1pm
The Oak Island Farmer’s Market features handmade and homegrown products from local farmers and artists. Pick up the freshest fruits, vegetables and local honey every Monday!

Coastal Consumer Showcase / St. James Community Center, Southport / 4pm-7pm
“Highlighting the Best in Local Products and Services.” Area businesses will be on display for area residents and visitors to explore what our business community has to offer. Free and includes one ticket for the Chinese Auction. Free Seminars on topics to be announced soon. Free Food Samples.

MARCH 4th
Diamonds & Denim Charity Ball / Stone Chimney Place, Supply NC / 6pm-10pm
The Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation, Inc. has selected WAVES4K.I.D.S. to be the recipient of proceeds from their 4th annual charity ball. Tickets are available for $80.00. MARCH 25th – 26th
Southport Spring Festival / Southport, NC / Event Times Vary
This festival features a wide variety of activities such as musical entertainment, handmade arts and crafts, children’s activities, azaleas and other plants for sale, and food vendors. Included is a Chili Cook-off, so get your taste buds ready to vote for the People’s Choice Award. There will also be a 5K Run/Walk.

APRIL 16th
Oak Island Lighthouse 5K-10K-1/2 Marathon / NC Baptist Assembly, Caswell Beach / 8am-Until
Picturesque routes along the beachfront and past the Oak Island Lighthouse. The Half Marathon route will include crossing the G.V. Barbee Bridge to Oak Island, twice and tree lined streets in Caswell Beach and Oak Island. Please check the run website for additional details. www.lighthouse10k.com

APRIL 16th
Phlock to the Beach a Buffett Style Beach Bash / Oak Island NC / Times Vary
Dig out your Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and join us for a weekend celebrating the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle on Oak Island. A full weekend of Jimmy Buffett inspired high spirited merriment at the beach. Events include a Art on the Apron, Concert at the Airport with entertainment by Party of Two and Chllin’ Dixie, Food, Beverages & Contests; Oak Island Lighthouse 10k, 5k & 1/2 Marathon; EAA Wings & Wheels and EAA Pancake Breakfast.

Summer Concert Series Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring summer concerts on Fridays at Middleton Park soccer field through September 9. Grab a lawn chair, family and friends, and enjoy the sounds of summer!

Oak Island Labor Day Surf Off
Oak Island Labor Day Surf Off The Oak Island Labor Day Surf Off is scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd near Ocean Crest Pier. The contest begins at 7:45am with a paddle out, and the contest begins at 8:15am. The contest consists of 15   minute heats for various age categories throughout the day. In addition to surfing, there is a paddleboard race, with both youth and adult categories. Registration is $25 + $5 for additional categories. Oak Island Art Guild Arts & Crafts Festival / 4601 E. Oak Island Dr / Middleton Park / 9 am – 4pm
The 27th Annual Art Guild Arts & Ctafts Festival held Labor Day weekend. These will be more than 100 arts and crafts vendors as well as festival foods. Plenty of parking and free admission.

SEPTEMBER 17th
Big Toy Day / 4009 Airport Road / Cape Fear Regional Jetport / 10 am- 3pm
8th Annual BIG TOY Day presented by the Kiwanis Club of Southport/ Oak Island, Fire Trucks, 18- wheelers, construction vehicles, speed boats, trucks, race cars… A highlight will be FREE Young Eagle flights for children ages 8-17 offered by EAA Chapter 939 from 10:30-1:00 (parent or legal guardian must be present).  Admission is $5 per person, with children 4 years and under admitted free, max entry is $20 per car.

SEPTEMBER 24th
7th Annual Southport Wooden Boat Show Southport/  107 Yacht Basin Drive / 10am-4 pm
Boats will be displayed in and around the historic Old Yacht Basin in Southport. NorVisitors will be able to meet and talk with wooden boat makers and owners, and to vote for their favorite boat entrant for the People’s Choice Award.

US King Mackerel Tournament / Southport Marina /  606 West Brown St
Annual U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament. The Granddad of all NC king mackerel fishing tournaments. Over $100,000 in prizes. Guaranteed Prize structure. Entertainment, Food, Fishing Tournament. Fee Charged to enter. Spectators Free. Public welcome.
