Southport / Oak Island has┬áspecial events throughout the year that highlight a variety of holidays, national observances and just plain fun! Of course, we are most well-known in these parts for hosting the North Carolina 4th of July Festival in Southport NC each year. It is the largest 4th of July celebration in the state and there are great activities and entertainment for the entire week. Book your Oak Island rental now because that week fills up fast! But don’t worry, if you can’t see us in July, there is still plenty going on all year long!

First Friday Gallery Walk / Downtown Southport / 5pm-7pm
The public is invited to browse and shop the latest creations of area artists. Wine and appetizers start the walk off at the Franklin Square Gallery then on to Art @ 211, Ricky Evans Gallery, Howe Outrageous, Lantana’s Gallery and Southport’s Silver Coast Winery and Gallery. Enjoy live music along the way!

Oak Island Farmer’s Market / Middleton Park Extension at 49th St. / 7am-1pm
The Oak Island Farmer’s Market features handmade and homegrown products from local farmers and artists. Pick up the freshest fruits, vegetables and local honey every Monday!



Southport Maggie Awards After Party / Silver Coast Winery, Southport / 8pm-Until
Southport Magazine Maggie Awards “Highlighting all the things that make Southport a great place to live!” on February 7th. Public is welcome to the After Party at 8pm at Silver Coast Winery Tasting Room with live music from SGT Rock.

PEO Annual Antique Appraisal Fair/ Southport Community Building / 1pm-4pm
There will be several certified appraisers, both specialists and generalists, to examine your treasure, and give you their estimate of what it is worth. Treasures such as jewelry, china, clocks, dolls, paintings — anything that you can carry by hand. You can bring in up to three hand-carried items to be appraised. The cost for a ticket is $7 per item or three tickets for $20.

The Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation, Inc. has selected WAVES4K.I.D.S. to be the recipient of proceeds from their 4th annual charity ball. Tickets are available for $80.00. Sea Notes Choral Society Spring Concerts / Hatch Auditorium, Caswell Beach / Times Vary
The singers will be taking you back in time as they sing “Songs from the 60s”. The chorus will be directed by Susan Linton and Jane Boberg will be accompanying. The free concert will be at Hatch Auditorium on the grounds of the Baptist Assembly at Caswell Beach/Oak Island and three performances are scheduled.

MARCH 28th
Historical Southport Bicycle Tours / Southport, NC / 3pm-4pm
The guided tour will wind through live oak canopied streets and along the waterfront, incorporating local history. Participants will pedal past Fort Johnston, homes of Pilots and Blockade Runners, the Brunswick Inn, and the Old Yacht Basin, where several movies have been filmed.

MARCH 28th
4th Annual Lower Cape Fear Hospice Skeet Shoot Fundraiser / Buccaneer Gun Club, Leland NC / 8am-Until
Participants will be treated to on-site instruction, two full rounds of skeet shooting, additional shooting opportunities, and event sweag bag including commemorative t-shirt, and lots of fun! Breakfast and lunch will be provided for what is sure to be a great time!


APRIL 3rd-4th
Southport Spring Festival / Franklin Square Park, Southport / Times Vary
This festival features a wide variety of activities such as musical entertainment, handmade arts and crafts, children’s activities, azaleas and other plants for sale, and food vendors. Included is a Chili Cook-off, so get your taste buds ready to vote for the People’s Choice Award. There will also be a 5K Run/Walk.

Southport Oak Island Kiwanis 5K Run-Walk / Waterfront Park, Southport / 8am-9:30am
Scenic 5k run/walk through downtown Southport starting and ending at Waterfront Park in conjunction with the annual Spring Festival.

APRIL 11th
Dive Into History Symposium / Maritime Museum, Southport / 10:30am-3:30pm
Cape Fear is home to some of the most interesting wrecks in North Carolina history and the panel discussion will be engaging and exciting. Join the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport, as we welcome a series of professional divers to share fascinating moments in history through their eyes.

APRIL 18th
Oak Island Lighthouse 5K-10K-1/2 Marathon / NC Baptist Assembly, Caswell Beach / 8am-Until
Picturesque routes along the beachfront and past the Oak Island Lighthouse. The Half Marathon route will include crossing the G.V. Barbee Bridge to Oak Island, twice and tree lined streets in Caswell Beach and Oak Island. Please check the run website for additional details. www.lighthouse10k.com

Phlock to the Beach a Buffett Style Beach Bash / Oak Island NC / Times Vary
Dig out your Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and join us for a weekend celebrating the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle on Oak Island. A full weekend of Jimmy Buffett inspired high spirited merriment at the beach. Events include a Art on the Apron, Concert at the Airport with entertainment by Party of Two and Chllin’ Dixie, Food, Beverages & Contests; Oak Island Lighthouse 10k, 5k & 1/2 Marathon; EAA Wings & Wheels and EAA Pancake Breakfast.

Live Music from 4pm-6pm by Party of Two and Trop Rock/Country Entertainment by Chillin’ Dixie. Food, Beer, Wine, sodas, bocce ball and corn hole available. Contests (Mr. Longitude, Ms. Latitude, Jimmy Buffett Look-A-Like, Grass Skirt Hula,and Hula Hoop).

Wings & Wheels / Cape Fear Regional Jetport / 8am-3pm
There will be a car and plane show. Airplane Contests: Best High Wing, Best Low Wing and Spot Landing Contest. Car Show Contest: Open to all cars. Class and Special Awards, Top Twenty.

APRIL 22nd
NC Maritime Museum @ Southport Annual Golf Classic / The Members Club, St. James / 12pm-6pm
This event has proven to be an enjoyable and entertaining day of golf for its participants and promises to be so again this year. The event will include 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls, a hole-in-one prize, skill awards, prizes in various categories, happy hour, dinner, raffles, and live and silent auctions.

APRIL 24th-25th
Women Angler’s In Training / Oak Island Parks & Rec / 7am-Until
For you ladies who want to learn more about saltwater fishing and don’t want to be bothered by your husband or boyfriend, the Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department have just the thing. The Women Anglers in Training Program, or WAIT for short, is a two day fishing seminar.

APRIL 24th
Plein Air Paint Out / Southport Waterfront / Times Vary
Southport Plein Air paint-out is an exciting OUTDOOR event, sponsored by the City of Southport as a way to support artists in our area and bring public art to our streets. Our area’s most talented painters will paint Plein Air (in the open air). The public is invited to stroll our streets and watch as each artist turns a blank canvas in to a “one of a kind” piece of Southport art that will be available for purchase.

APRIL 25th
Oak Island Beach Preservation Society Wine Tasting / Island Way Restaurant, Oak Island / 12pm-2:30pm
Sample the wines, enjoy tasty treats from local sources, and bid on fabulous silent auction items at the 16th Annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction hosted by the Oak Island Beach Preservation Society. All proceeds from the event fund beach preservation projects and education.
