The Flip Flopped Edition
Christmas is perhaps the best time of year to visit the North Carolina coast. The average air temperature is 59-degrees and the sun is warm. In celebration of this wonderful weather and the holidays, join the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce for its 2020 Christmas By the Sea Parade - The Flip Flop Edition!
A Hometown Favorite
Looking a bit different this year, this event is sure to be fun-filled for area businesses and parade-goers alike! The parade will showcase businesses and organizations of our close-knit community. "The parade is a cherished holiday tradition, we just couldn't let 2020 end without having it. With support from the Town of Oak Island we have created a safe and fun way to hold the parade," said Jackie Pappas, Parade co-chair for the Chamber.
Organizers got creative this year to meet the challenges of COVID-19. This year the parade will be presented in a 'flip-flopped' format with parade units stationed along the road and spectators driving past them. Everyone is invited to decorate a stationary float and enter the parade at www.christmasbytheseaparade.com, or to gather in a car or golf cart to drive along the parade route. Residents along the route are encouraged to even decorate their homes.
The More Holiday Spirit, the Better!
Staged along E Dolphin Drive beginning at Middleton Avenue, the event kicks off at 1:00pm with a ribbon-cutting hosted by Santa himself! Santa and the Mrs. will then lead traffic along E Dolphin past 75 parade units.
The drive-thru route will be open to spectators until 4:00pm. It will be one-way. Residents, visitors - all spectators and drivers are encouraged to decorate their cars and golf carts.
