Throughout the year, Southport and Oak Island highlight a variety of holidays and national observations (as well as the importance of just plain fun with your neighbors) with special events. The most well-known of these events would have to be the North Carolina 4th of July Festival in Southport. This annual event is the largest 4th of July celebration in the state with various activities and entertainment planned locally for the entire week. (If you haven’t booked your stay for that week, you may want to do so as that week’s rentals fill up fast! On the other hand, don’t worry if you can’t make it to Oak Island in July as there are plenty of events happening all year long.) Be sure to check this page regularly as we will continue to update with event information as it is made available.


Oak Island VFW Bingo | 103 SE 50th Street | Oak Island | 6:30pm to 10:30pm
The public is invited to join the Oak Island VFW for a game (or two) of bingo. A fee is required to participate and cash prizes are awarded to winners. For more information, call (910) 278-9978.

NC Maritime Museum Adult Program | 223 E Bay Street | Southport | 7pm to 9pm
Join fellow history buffs for an evening of educational discussion about North Carolina’s maritime history. Topics vary from month to month.

First Friday Gallery Walk | 211 N Howe Street | Southport | 5pm to 7pm
Browse and shop the latest creations from area artists at the First Friday Gallery Walk. Wine and appetizers kick off this monthly event where guests stroll through downtown Southport viewing featured artists at Franklin Square Gallery, Art @ 211, Ricky Evans Gallery, Howe Outrageous, Lantana’s Gallery and Southport’s Silver Coast Winery and Gallery. Mardi Gras By The Sea | Middleton Park Soccer Field | Oak Island | 1pm to 4pm
Join the Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department for this people and pet-friendly parade and festival. The parade will begin near the center of Oak Island and end at the festival location on Middleton Park.

Used Book Sale | Southport Realty | Southport | 9am to 12pm
Support the Friends Of The Library, Southport & Oak Island during their used book sale. Hardcover and paper back books will be available for purchase with an awesome February special (any red cover book will be half-price).

Antique Appraisal Fair | Southport Community Building | Southport | 2pm to 5pm
The Southport Chapter of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) will hold its 15th annual appraisal fair on Sunday, February 25th. Door-only tickets cost $8 per item or 3 items for $20.

Tasting Tour Of Italy | Uncorked By The Sea | Southport | 6pm

Head out to the St. James Community Center to view and experience the “best in local products and services”. Area residents and visitors alike can explore what our local business community has to offer while seeing familiar faces at this annual event.

Diamonds & Denim Ball | St. James Community Center | Southport | 6pm to 10pm
Dance the night away with music by the Black Water Rhythm & Blues Band, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a delicious buffet dinner, along with wine and beer, and try your hand at both silent and live auctions at the prestigious Diamonds & Denim Ball. Proceeds benefit the Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation.

Super Seniors Spring Event | Caswell Dunes HOA Club House | Caswell Beach | 2pm
Join the Town of Caswell Beach for its Spring Senior Event. Guest Speakers will include Yvonne Hatcher, Executive Director of Brunswick Transit System, and Christina Baumon, the Community Accessibility Consultant with the NC Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Learn more about what services are offered in Brunswick County, how to make travel arrangements, and how devices help you determine what kind of devices can make your life easier. 7th Annual NC Catch Summit | Southport Community Building | Southport

Taste Of Southport-Oak Island | St. James Community Center | Southport | 6pm
Support Southport Christian School during their annual Taste of Southport-Oak Island event at the St. James Community Center. Delight in the tastes provided by various local restaurants as well as both live and silent auctions. Tickets are on sale for $10/child and $15-$20/adult.

Badwater Cape Fear | Bald Head Island
The BADWATER® ultra running experience returns to the East Coast with its 5th Badwater Cape Fear race set to take place on Bald Head Island. 4th Annual Oyster Roast & Shrimp Boil Jamboree | Yacht Basin Eatery | Southport | 1pm to 9pm
Due to weather, this popular 4th annual event was rescheduled for a lovely spring date. Come enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters, shrimp, hush puppies, fries and slaw as well as 1 draft beer with your $35 entry fee. With a fantastic musical lineup including Hot Flash, Southport Johnnie & The Bizness, The Blues Kings and Dave’s Not Home, this will surely be a fun and entertaining event for all.

Spring Into Health 4K & 1-Mile Run | Dosher Memorial Hosptial | Southport | 9:30am
Welcome the warmer weather with a spring in your step! All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate in this run/walk which will head through downtown Southport and along the waterfront to promote healthy activity for all.

Southport Easter Egg Hunt | Franklin Square Park & Ft Garrison Lawn | Southport | 10am
Hop to it!! Grab your baskets and head over to the annual Easter egg hunt in Southport where there’ll be fun for all ages! Kids between 6 and 12 may head over to Franklin Square Park where they’ll need their thinking caps to enjoy a challenging hunt. Immediately following, those under the age of 6 may start their search on the Fort Garrison Lawn. All in all, a thousand plastic eggs with goodies await your huntsman/woman. Events are free and open to the public.

Sea Notes Choral Society Spring Concert | BCC Odell Williamson | Bolivia | 3pm
The Sea Notes Choral Society will hold its annual spring concert, titled “Unforgettable”,at Odell Williamson Auditorium on the campus of Brunswick Community College. This beloved group is comprised of 100+ volunteer music lovers that enjoy the pleasure of singing and sharing it with the local community. This event is free and open to the public.

Southport Spring Festival | Franklin Square Park | Southport | 10am
Come out and welcome spring in style during this traditional festival. Featuring a wide variety of activities including musical entertainment, handmade arts and crafts, children’s activities, azaleas and other plants for sale, and food vendors.

Oak Island Egg Hunt | Bill Smith Park | Southport | 10am
Grab your baskets and head out for a hunt! Join us at Bill Smith Park on Fish Factory Road for the Oak Island Annual Egg Hunt! Festivities begin at 10am.


Annual Flea Market | Brunswick Community College | Bolivia | 8am to 1pm
Join the St. James Service Club for its annual flea market at Brunswick Community College. This extremely popular event offers a huge selection of items including furniture, lamps, art, rugs, household goods, linens, kitchen items, books and CDs as well as tools, electronics, golf equipment and yard equipment. Refreshments will be served and all purchases are cash only. Proceeds from the event benefit the St. James Service Club’s scholarship program.

Ride The Tide | Davis Canal | Oak Island | 9am to 12pm
Grab your kayak and Ride The Tide along the Davis Canal at this annual event. Participants will choose to either float or race from just behind the Recreation Center to Bluewater Pointe. In addition, there is a scheduled poker run, prizes and refreshments at the stop/end of the float/race.

Earth Day Festival | Middleton Park | Oak Island | 10am to 2pm
Celebrate Earth Day with a hands-on environmental, Earth-friendly celebration featuring activities and fun for all ages. Sponsored by the Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department, head out to Middleton Park for this Earth Day event!

Bandtastic! | Hatch Auditorium | NC Baptist Assembly | Caswell Beach | 3pm
The Brunswick Concert Bad will perform its Spring Concert, entitled “Bandtastic!” at Hatch Auditorium just down the road from the Oak Island Lighthouse. The concert is open to the public and free of charge for entry.

Oak Island Lighthouse Run & Walk | Middleton Park Extension | Oak Island | 7:30am
This 20-year tradition is alive and well as a safe, fun and enjoyable event for all fitness levels. Whether you choose to run the 1/2 marathon, 10K or 5K course, you’ll be able to enjoy views of the salt marsh, Atlantic Ocean, wide beautiful beaches and our very own Lighthouse.

Wine Tasting & Auction Fundraiser | Island Way Restaurant | Oak Island | 12pm to 2:30pm
Support the Oak Island Beach Preservation Society during its 19th Annual fundraising event “Embrace Diversity, The Same But Different”. Spend an elegant afternoon sampling twelve different wines while tasting delicious hors d’oeuvres from Island Way and other local restaurants, plus deli and fruits from local sponsors. Join The Adventure Kayak Company for Southport’s Arbor Day Celebration in downtown Southport. Complete with an ice cream social, this celebration of Southport’s trees will surely be a good time for all.

Learn more about our local environment and develop a greater appreciation for it during this event organized by Coastal Water Watch. Featuring engaging speakers and guided outdoor activities, nature enthusiasts and locals alike will enjoy the valuable information offered about the area we all call home.

WAIT – Women Anglers In Training | Oak Island Recreation Center | Oak Island | 9am to 4pm
The Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department offers this stress-free, informative training event for all the ladies out there who are tried of being bothered by their husband/significant other when fishing. Come learn more about saltwater fishing including tackle, knots, rigging, flounder fishing, bottom fishing, drum fishing, surf fishing and cast nets.  The cost for this program varies upon your training selections. Relay For Life of Brunswick County | West Brunswick High School | Shallotte | 4pm
Celebrate, remember and fight back! Join the Brunswick County community for an incredible and inspiring event to honor cancer survivors, raise awareness, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society.

Southport Oak Island Golf Classic | Oak Island Golf & Country Club | Oak Island | 8:30am
Grab your clubs for this 4-person captain’s choice format tournament that attracts a full field of golfers at every skill level! This wonderful event offers the opportunity to network with fellow business owners in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The entry fee of $420/team includes cart, green fees, morning breakfast, coffee, juice, on-course hospitality and lunch. Teams may pre-register at the Chamber office. Check-in on tournament day is at 7:30am with a shotgun start set for 8:30am.

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony | Southport | 10:30am
Grab the kiddos and head out to Southport’s annual parade and ceremony in observance of Memorial Day. The parade will start at the corner of Lord and 10th Street and end at John N. Smith Cemetery.

Annual Memorial Day Observance | Southport Community Building | Southport | 2pm
Join the Southport Junior Woman’s Club and the City of Southport Department of Tourism for Southport’s annual Memorial Day Observance, “Days of Remembrance”. This event honors the United States armed forces and offers American traditions like homemade apple pie and ice cream.
