Possible Travel Routes Available
As the water continues to recede and roads are deemed passable, we continue in our efforts to keep MRA guests updated. The following 2 travel routes have been confirmed for travel into our area, and guests may want to consider them in their travel plans over the next week.
133 S / 87 S
From Wilmington, North Carolina, guests may take Highway 133 S from Leland to 50 Lakes Drive in Boiling Spring Lakes. Then, they may proceed along 50 Lakes Drive to Highway 87 S (George II Highway). Highway 87 S (George II HIghway) will merge with Highway 133 S. Guests may then make a right onto Long Beach Road SE (Highway 133 S) which will bring them onto the island via the GV Barbee Bridge.*
*Authorities expect to open US 17 sometime on Thursday, September 19th. When US 17 becomes passable, drivers will be able to take US 17 S to Highway 87 S (George II Highway) and could then follow the directions above, eliminating the need to take Highway 133 S in Leland and 50 Lakes Drive in Boiling Spring Lakes.
211 S
Highway 211 S is open from Highway 74/76 just passed US 17 S. From Highway 211 S, you may take Highway 906 which will eventually bring you onto the island via the Swains Cut Bridge.
Continued Recommendations
We continue to recommend that guests map out travel routes and monitor road conditions for hazards that can impact your travel route. While there has been progress, additional impacts may be discovered as waters continue to recede. You should allow for increased travel time and heavier traffic due to the limited number of routes available.
